The Last Movie I've Seen: Wind River (2017) I'm a big fan of Taylor Sheridan, he wrote Sicario and Hell or High Water, which are two of the best films of the decade. He's recently made his directorial debut with a script he wrote called Wind River. It's about a young and inexperienced FBI agent (Elizabeth Olsen) who teams up with a town's veteran game tracker (Jeremy Renner) to investigate a murder that occurred on a Native American reservation. The movie was absolutely riveting from start to finish, extremely poetic and visually stunning. It reminded me of a Cormac McCarthy novel. It never played with cliche as the tough cowboy allows himself to feel his emotions and the rookie female cop is tough and in charge. The film also managed to pull off something very tricky in the third act. This movie is great but people need to see it because it brings light to a real issue. The ending title card says that the United States government does not keep statistics on missing Native American women. America continues to rob Native Americans of their resources but turns a blind eye to their women getting raped and murdered. It's awesome that Taylor Sheridan used his platform to bring attention to this issue. Go see Wind River. #30dayfilmchallenge #WindRiver #windrivermovie #jeremyrenner #elizabetholsen #taylorsheridan #western #thriller #poetry #cormacmccarthy
My Favorite Movie: Citizen Kane My family would always watch AFI's 100 Greatest Movies and every year they listed Citizen Kane as the greatest movie of all time. My mom said that she heard of it but never seen it and we'd always looked for it on TV Guide but it never came on. TCM played it during my birthday one year when both of my sisters were out of the house and there was a massive snow storm going on, so me and my mom were snowed in. She cooked pasta for me while I shoveled and that night we watched Citizen Kane for the first time. Without giving the story away, Citizen Kane is about a man's relationship to his mother and how that's impacted him throughout his entire life. Watching it with my mom for the first time is something that I'm never going to forget and makes it my favorite movie of all time. #30dayfilmchallenge #Movies #CitizenKane #OrsonWelles #1941 #oscars #afi #mom #birthday

Nothing makes me happier than films. . . . . . Especially since BOTH of the productions I was part of brought home awards! 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in categories across the board. I had a wonderful day at the 2017 Action Film Challenge representing "I Now Pronounce You." I got second place for Best Supporting Actress for my kicking, punching, blood-spitting villainy! We also won Best Costume, Best Hair and Makeup, and we got a mention for Production Design. I got to watch my film fam dominate the challenge with their works, too! Picking this back up again after months. This day was particularly difficult because I love the thiller genere. Honorable mentions: Hard Candy, Get Out, Prisoners Gone Girl, Green Room, The Handmaiden...I could go on and every Fincher thriller would make the cut. #30DayMovieChallenge #30DayFilmChallenge #Se7en #DavidFincher #Film
Day 30-Favourite Film I have so many, and I'm actually working on making a list of my 25 favourite films leading up to my 25th birthday. It varies day to day, but since I just revisited it recently I'll give it to The Sound of Music ❤❤ #30DayFilmChallenge #Day30 #TheSoundofMusic
Day 29-A Movie That Changed My Opinion About Something Of Miracles and Men and The Price of Gold are two documentaries from ESPN's 30 for 30 series that explore two iconic moments in American sports history from a completely different perspective. #30DayFilmChallenge #Day29 #30for30
Day 28-Movie With the Best Soundtrack I interpreted this as best movie musical, and I have to say Across the Universe is another great, underrated movie. Not only is this a great sweet, original story, the Beatles covers are amazing in my opinion. If you're not a Beatles purist, hopefully you'll enjoy this too! 🍓 #30DayFilmChallenge #Day28 #AcrosstheUniverse
Day 26-A Movie That's a Guilty Pleasure I realize this may be a deep cut, but I watch Happy Christmas every single year. I grew up on the show, and I go nuts over this finale. It's objectively terrible, and a really great story gets lost in some weird stuff with Hetty in particular, but guys, that ending gets me EVERY FREAKING TIME 😭😭 #30DayFilmChallenge #Day26 #HappyChristmasMissKing
Alright, so because of moving and life I haven't had a chance to finish these, so get ready! Day 25-A Movie No One Would Expect I Love I heard a lot of good feedback from family and friends that you were surprised I'm into Studio Ghibli and The Purge Movies. I'd like to submit another movie that even I was surprised I liked when I saw it. Draft Day tells the story of the fictional 2014 NFL draft specifically from the perspective of the Cleveland Browns that was sort of based on true events. I hate football with a deep, undying passion, but this movie had so much heart and was so cheesy that I kind of fell in love. #30DayFilmChallenge #Day25 #DraftDay
#30DayFilmChallenge #DayThirteen "What is the one film you used to love but now hate?" ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The one film that I used to love but now hate is "Space Jam" (1996). It was an amazing film to me as a child and had a special place in my wannabe-basketball star heart. I also was in love with Bill Murray and Danny DeVito as a child so it was a perfect film for me because them with Michael Jordan seemed nothing less of impeccable. The reality of it now is that it's a pretty shit movie. I can't even love this movie in a I-loved-a-shitty-movie-in-my-childhood-so-it-now-makes-me-nostalgic type of way because it is THAT bad. I'm sure it'll still be extremely fun for kids nowadays to watch but it is a GRUELLING watch for anyone who has any sense of a good/bad movie.
#30DayFilmChallenge #DayTwelve ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ "What is your favourite animated film?" My favourite animated film of all time is Wes Anderson's "Fantastic Mr Fox" (2009). Named the best animated film of all time by "Rolling Stone" magazine, "Fantastic Mr Fox" is really a sight for sore eyes with the digital upon digital-created crap that has been spewing out of the box office lately (of course, not claiming that CGI is always a bad way to go). It is extremely fun for a demographic of all ages- although this may be one of those animations I think are best suited for adults who will understand and greatly appreciate its witty screenplay. I give it a 9.5/10.
#30DayFilmChallenge #DayEleven "What is your favourite movie from your childhood?" ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Hands down my favourite film from my childhood, no questions asked, is "Fantasia" (1940). Although some have described it as not suitable for children, due to some of its "scarier parts", slightly slow storytelling, and, extremely strange animation- to me, it was a fucking magical experience. One of Disney's most experimental movies really payed off with its stunning visuals coupled with some less straightforward, but highly effective storytelling. Despite what everybody else says, I will definitely show this film to my kids in hopes that they will be as blown away as I was at the mere existence of this spectacular flick. I give "Fantasia" a 10/10.
Day 24-Favourite Documentary I've kind of been dreading this day because this is something that makes me incredibly sad. This documentary really opened my eyes to the scourge that is shark finning, and as citizens of the world we need to care. The filmmaker Rob Stewart died this year during a dive filming the follow-up to this. I was absolutely heartbroken, since this film impacted me in a really personal way. #30DayFilmChallenge #Day24 #Sharkwater
Day 23-Favourite Movie Character I was actually thinking about this recently. Schindler's List doesn't really hold up to me as a Holocaust movie, but Liam Neeson's portrayal of Oskar Schindler is off the charts. He's an interesting historical figure, and in this movie we really get to see his journey. #30DayFilmChallenge #Day23 #SchindlersList
Day 22-Most Underrated Movie Again, I don't know about MOST, but Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette is actually one of my favourite films and it's extremely underrated. Not only is it gorgeous, but it really gives a human look to a demonized historical figure. #30DayFilmChallenge #Day22 #marieantoinette
#30DayFilmChallenge #DayTen "Who is your favourite director of all time?" ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ AAAAAAA this question is so difficult to answer. I think I'll have to just give my top 10 directors (in no particular order). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Ingmar Bergman, Stanley Kubrick, Martin Scorsese, Ang Lee, David Lynch, Roman Polanski, Sergio Leone, Sergei Eisensten, The Coen Brothers, and François Truffaut ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Please remember that these posts are my PERSONAL OPINIONS, not based on the way I objectively view directors and their movies.
#30DayFilmChallenge #DayNine "What is a movie that you practically know the entire script of?" ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I literally know the entire scripts of "The Dark Knight" (2008), "Casablanca" (1942) and "On The Waterfront" (1954). I've already done a tiny review on "The Dark Knight" but I don't need to say anything about both "Casablanca" or "On The Waterfront" for people to understand how fucking spectacular they both are. I will anyway, however. They both still hold up wonderfuly today, which is why I am still able to watch the both of them enough times to have memorised both scripts. "Casablanca" is one of the most beloved American films of all time, and for great reason- one of those being it's obviously stellar cast. The film is always charming and always lovely, although not without consistency flaws. I give "Casablanca" a 9.5/10. "On The Waterfront" is another American masterpiece with amazing components like Marlon Brando's impeccable performance and Budd Schullberg's amazing screenplay. I give it a 9.5/10.
Day 21-Most Overrated Movie I don't know if it's the MOST overrated movie, but most people I know really like Guardians...and I don't :/ That being said, I wasn't a huge fan of The Avengers and I re-watched it recently and really liked it. I guess I'll re-watch it leading up to the new one 😊 #30DayFilmChallenge #Day21 #guardiansofthegalaxy
Day 17-Movie That Disappointed Me the Most This series had a huge impact on me as a kid, so I was really excited for the movie. Kids were great, Meryl Streep was great (obviously), and Billy Connolly was great. That was basically it. Good thing the Netflix series is fantastic. 🤡👨🚒🏨 #30DayFilmChallenge #Day17 #aseriesofunfortunateevents
#30DayFilmChallenge #Day8 "What film makes you sad?" ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The one film that never fails to put me in a fit of tears is "Dancer in the Dark" (2000). Objectively, I find it very confusing to rate because I can completely understand why some people hate it and why some people love it. It is, at heart, a very brave and different film, but not exactly a well-made one. However, it did get me to care deeply for the characters and as a result, had me leaving very upset. In fact, I do not think I will ever watch this film again due to the sole fact that it is that upsetting- almost on a "Requiem for a Dream" (2000) level. I give "Dancer in the Dark" a 6.5/10. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Please remember that these posts are my PERSONAL OPINIONS, not based on the way I objectively view movies (the "tiny reviews" are objective, however, just NOT the lists).
Day 15-First Movie I Saw in Theatres I was four when I first saw Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame...in hindsight not the best movie to show to kids, but I got really into it. I dressed up as Esmeralda for Halloween, and some of my favourite toys were Hunchback toys 😊I stand by this movie, and think it's actually pretty underrated! #30DayFilmChallenge #Day15 #HunchbackofNotreDame
#30DayFilmChallenge #Day7 "What movie makes you happy?" ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ My favourite ever feel-good film is "The Princess Bride" (1987). An extremely witty and charming film. I give it an 8.5/10. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Please remember that these posts are my PERSONAL OPINIONS, not based on the way I objectively view movies (the "tiny reviews" are objective, however, just NOT the lists).
Day 13-A Movie I Used to Love, But Now I Hate I don't even know where to start with this movie. To take a true story and subvert to frame a colonizer as a white saviour to an Indigenous tribe is an insult to history. Also, when these events allegedly happened, Pocahontas was like 10, so the movie aged her so she could have a romance with the white guy. Ugh, the worst. So many more problems. #30DayFilmChallenge #Day13
#30DayFilmChallenge #Day6 "What is your favourite comedy?" ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This is going to sound VERY generic and mainstream but my ultimate, favourite comedy of all time has to be a tie between "Kingsman: The Secret Service" (2014) and "Deadpool" (2016). I know that they are often associated with the genre of "action" but the comedy aspects of the both of them have really been my favourites out of all the comedy movies I've ever seen. Both are extremely intelligent, witty and crude comedies that you are able to enjoy with hyper-stylised, stunning action sequences. They are also both comic book movies so that's a large bonus. I give "Kingsman: The Secret Service" a 7.5/10 and "Deadpool" a 9/10. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Please remember that these posts are my PERSONAL OPINIONS, not based on the way I objectively view movies (the "tiny reviews" are objective, however, just NOT the lists).
#30DayFilmChallenge #Day5 "What is your favourite drama film?" ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This question was very, very, very easy for me to answer. My favourite drama is HANDS DOWN "12 Angry Men" (1957). It is so incredibly moving and it never falters in the powerful department, either. "12 Angry Men" is, in my opinion, a perfect and timeless masterpiece- its themes are still extremely relevant today. I give it a 10/10. I believe this is the first 10/10 I've given on this account!! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Please remember that these posts are my PERSONAL OPINIONS, not based on the way I objectively view movies (the "tiny reviews" are objective, however, just NOT the lists).
#30DayFilmChallenge #Day4 "What is your favourite horror film?" ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ My favourite horror film is ANOTHER 3-way tie (I am HORRIBLE at deciding) between "Rosemary's Baby" (1968), "The Wicker Man" (1973), and "Scream" (1996). I must say, I'm not a huge fan of the horror genre but what I do love is psychological thrillers, which is probably why "Rosemary's Baby" is on my list. Roman Polanski puts an artful twist to an already brilliant horror film- and with Mia Farrow as the impeccable lead, it's no wonder this film takes this place on my list. I give it a 9.8/10. "The Wicker Man" is nothing short of a mindblowingly intelligent and eccentric cult classic, with its subtlety and terrifying, mystical overtones- making it almost audacious for its time. I give it an 8/10. "Scream", however, is almost on the complete opposite end of the horror movie spectrum- it's EXTREMELY cheesy- almost campy. It almost makes fun of other (as they mention, Jamie Lee Curtis-esque) horror films and their predictable plots. It's not a mindbending film at ALL, but it's extremely fun to watch (6.8/10). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Please remember that these posts are my PERSONAL OPINIONS, not based on the way I objectively view movies (the "tiny reviews" are objective, however, just NOT the lists).
Day 9-A Movie I Know Practically the Whole Script Of This was such a formative movie for me, and I don't know how many times I've seen it. It's been a while, but I bet I could still recite this entire movie word for word. #30DayFilmChallenge #Day9 #HarryPotter
#30DayFilmChallenge #Day3 "What is your favourite action/adventure film?" ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ My favourite action/adventure film is a three-way tie between "Raiders of the Lost Ark" (1981), "The Dark Knight" (2008), and "X Men: Days of Future Past" (2014). I know that they are all Hollywood blockbusters made pretty recently, and that two of them are superhero films (I am a personal believer in the underestimation of superhero films), but, they are all also incredibly brilliant. "Raiders of the Lost Ark" is a movie that truly transcends as a plethora of spectacular adventures and none-stop exhilaration from the very start (9/10). I don't even need to begin to explain how great The Dark Knight is; everybody knows it, starting from Heath Ledger's psychologically perfect role to the continuously impeccable direction of Christopher Nolan (9.8/10). X Men: Days of Future Past is another incredible superhero film; a perfect balance of drama, action, campiness, the 70s, thrill and SPECTACULAR special effects- one specific scene that I don't even need to mention (9/10). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Please remember that these posts are my PERSONAL OPINIONS, not based on the way I objectively view movies (the "tiny reviews" are objective, however, just NOT the lists).
Day 8-Movie ThAt Makes Me Sad This is literally the most depressing movie I've ever seen in my life. To illustrate, **SPOILER ALERT** the opening scene in this film is the main character dying of starvation in an alley. Seriously, I could only watch it once. #30DayFilmChallenge #Day8 #GraveoftheFireflies
Day 7-Movie That Makes Me Happy This is a super lame story, so I'll tell it quickly...when I was younger, I didn't get invited to a birthday party of someone I knew really well, and they went to see this movie at the theatre. I was bummed out, so I told my dad thinking that he would tell me this was silly. Anyway, without missing a beat, he took me to see it in theatres himself. That coupled with it's nice story about fathers and daughters always gives me a warm fuzzy feeling when I see this movie ❤ #30DayFilmChallenge #Day7 #WhatAGirlWants
#30DayFilmChallenge #DayTwo "The last film you watched" ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The last film I watched was "Gattaca" (1997), I just finished watching it for the 5th time. As for the last film I watched for the FIRST TIME, that would be "Five Easy Pieces" (1970). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ "Gattaca" is a thriller/drama set in the future in which one's genetic makeup determines everything in their life. Vincent Freeman is genetically inferior and must trick many people in order to fulfil his lifelong dream- to go to space. It is one of the most incredibly intelligent science thrillers I've ever come across. I give it an 8/10. As for "Five Easy Pieces", I very much enjoyed that film too. This is another drama, starring Jack Nicholson in a film that very much brought out the raw talent he so clearly holds. One of the best performances of his career. I give it a 9.5/10. I recommend both these films! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Please remember that these posts are my PERSONAL OPINIONS, not based on the way I objectively view movies (the "tiny reviews" are objective, however, just NOT the lists).
#30DayFilmChallenge #DayOne "What is your favourite film?" ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I thought long and hard about this one and came to the conclusion that my favourite film of all time is David Fincher's "Seven" (1995). This is the film that got me into films. It is a Drama/Crime/Thriller that stars Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt. That's all I'm going to say about it because for those who haven't seen it, it's a lot better going into seeing this movie while knowing as little as possible. All I'll say is that it's a very disturbing and dark psychological thriller that will really get you on an emotional rollercoaster. Its ending is also spectacular, one of the bleakest since Chinatown (1974). I give it a 9.5/10. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Please remember that these posts are my PERSONAL OPINIONS, not based on the way I objectively view movies.
Pan's Labyrinth :) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ For the next month, I will be doing the #30DayFilmChallenge in which every day, I post a separate "Favourite _______" relating to cinema, followed by a "tiny (objective) review". Starting today. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Please note that these posts will be my PERSONAL OPINIONS, not based on the way I objectively view movies.
Day 2: Last movie I watched Finally saw all the movies that were nominated for Oscars this past year. Fences wasn't a terrific movie, but Denzel absolutely deserved Best Actor over Casey Affleck. Also Viola Davis is fantastic and deserves all the awards. #30DayFilmChallenge #Day2
Day 1: Least Favourite Film. This won't be a surprise to anyone who knows me, but I hate this movie more and more as time goes on. From being super preachy, to its portrayal of Christians, to having way too many subplots, this is the worst kind of Christian movie. It had some good ideas, but dang what a mess 😕 #30DayFilmChallenge
