The Woodstock Museum's Escape the 1980's will be opening this Thursday, January 12th! To celebrate, we will be selecting one lucky group of 4 - 6 participants to have their escape videotaped and published onlined in a Big Brother style video. As if that's not enough, this group also gets to experience the escape room for FREE! To enter, follow the City of Woodstock on Instagram, like this post, and create a 30 second video from your phone or computer letting us know why you and your group should be selected. Upload your video to Instagram using the hashtag #escapethe80s . Be sure to upload your video before January 10th at 8:00pm! The Fine Print: We'll be looking for candidates who are comfortable being on camera and who would be entertaining for others to watch traverse the puzzles and riddles contained in the escape room. One winning entry will be selected from the combined entries received on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Photo release consent will be required from all participants of the selected group before entering the Escape Room. If any participants of the selected group are under the age of 14 then they must be accompanied by an adult. This contest will be open from Friday January 6th, 2017 until Tuesday, January 10th, 2017 at 8:00pm. The winning entry will be notified via Facebook or Instagram after the closing of the contest submission period.
The Woodstock Museum was once home to Woodstock's Old Town Hall and Market. Constructed in 1853, it has been a part of much of Woodstock's #historic past. In 1890, while Woodstock's Court House was undergoing construction, The Old Town Hall (today the #museum ) served as the temporary courthouse during the notorious Benwell Murder Case. This event saw the conviction and eventual hanging of Reginald Birchall, a wealthy Englishman who was part of a scheme to steal money from wealthy Canadians in order to pay off his debts. This led to the ventral murder of Frederick Blackwell and an international media scandal.
