Walk in Waipoua Forest. First picture is Tane Mahuta, the lord of the forest, one of the most ancient trees, believed to be around 2000 years old and the largest living kauri tree in New Zealand. In Maori cosmology, Tane is the son of Ranginui, the sky father and Papatanuanuku the earth mother. Tane tore his parents apart, breaking their primal embrace, to bring air, space and light and allowing life to flourish. Second picture are the four sisters, 4 kauri trees growing close together.
