Jealous of everyone that saw Kendrick Lamar tonight And can't believe I said France would win the world cup 😂
In 1957, my grandparents purchased 180 acres of virgin scrub. Way ahead of their time, they had it declared a sanctuary. This means that, apart from a rustic hut built out of recycled materials, all there is ... is nature. No electricity. No running water. Just peace, quiet, the wind in the trees and the sun in the sky. In my life, homes have come and gone, but the Sanctuary has been a constant. My grandparents’ ashes are scattered there. My ashes will be scattered there. It is my home from home. It’s a place to reconnect - with nature, with others, and with yourself. It’s a place where you become one with the beautiful rhythm of surviving. Collecting wood, chopping wood, lighting the fire, tending the fire, cooking over the fire, collecting the rainwater, heating the rainwater, washing the dishes, lighting the candles ... this seemingly mundane cycle becomes a meditative ritual of love and life. Being at the Sanctuary - and now seeing my children delight in it as much as I do - always reminds me of two of my favourite quotes, from two wonderful Annes: . “Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you” - Anne Lamott . “Dear old world”, she murmured. ‘You are very lovely, and I’m happy to be alive in you’.” - Anne of Green Gables, L.M.
