Took a drive to Pahoa tonight to see the glow of the 🌋
Hi everyone! I’m David, a fourth year PhD candidate and Tata fellow working for Jesse Kroll in Civil&Environmental Engineering. I build distributed networks of low cost air quality sensors to better understand sources of pollution and to help decision makers get the data they need to make informed decisions. Normally, you would find me working in Delhi monitoring urban emissions; however, this week I am in Hawai’i expanding our network of sensors to aid in the monitoring of the ongoing eruption at Kilauea. Today, we were able to set up the first five sensors in the area closest to the fissures where tons of sulfur dioxide and hydrogen sulfide gases are being emitted. Throughout the next six days, we will be traveling across the island expanding our network and meeting with stakeholders. Stay tuned for more!
