Dannie my assistant coach.
I am a dancer. I am also an out of shape, 38 year old wife, and mother of 4 kids and I have never taken a dance class in my life. • I am a dancer. I dance while cooking, driving, in the elevator, in the *ahem* bedroom, at the grocery store and in the church aisles. • I stepped into “Hotties In Heels” last night. Maybe it was a lapse of good judgement or perhaps a dose of bravery? I was the oldest gal in the room I’m sure. I’m the girl in the white #powersuit tee who’s about 2 steps behind the rest. Today it feels like I broke my everything. Seriously, will my left hip recover? But it was totally worth it. I laughed (mostly at myself) so much. I met some beautiful supportive faces. And I got to share in the love for dancing with other women. • I’m proud of myself. I got out of my comfort zone. I made room in my schedule for me. I put a personal value (dancing) at the top of my Friday night list. I did a new thing. AND there is video to prove it! • This is self care. This is also me being brave. What does self care look like for you? What brave thing are you doing lately? I wanna hear all about it! #brave #dance #woman #curlygirlseverywhere #curlyhair #wife #mom #selfcare #selflove #instalove
So, when I took the @ancestry DNA test, the test revealed the identity of my birth father. Oh, I was almost sure it was him but he was hedging. He wouldn't completely own that he was my biological father. But DNA does not lie. I have written about that painful, frustrating relationship in blogs, and my #adoption memoir, Anne of Green Gables, My Daughter and Me. Even though I knew Ed was my birth father, to see it on my phone in black and white was crazy and powerful. (Thankfully, I had an adoptive father who ran toward me, not away from me--Abe the Bookseller! 💝) When I heard about this new memoir by @daniwriter, I knew I had to read it. This is a memoir of another DNA test, and another father and daughter. Thanks to my friend Tim the Bookseller at my beloved @schulerbooks_chapbookcafe, for giving me a copy. I can't wait to read how my story and Dani Shapiro's story interweave, and how her revelation changed her. How nurture shapes us--and nature--is one of the most fascinating and personal subjects to me as an adoptee. Have you heard the buzz about "Inheritance"? #adoptionislove #memoir #bookstagram #bookishlove #bookstore #indiebookstore

Many thanks to @randomhouse for my favorite gifts of all-books! Three of these have me over the moon with anticipation, and one has my dear husband in its meaty thrall! Which one entices you? Is it... * Love and Ruin by Paula McClain, a novel based on the life of Mrs.Hemingway 3, Martha Gelhorn? (McCain's The Paris Wife is a favorite of mine!) * Unmarriageable by Somiah Jamal, otherwise known as Pride and Prejudice in Pakistan, with a brooding Mr. Darsee? * The Dreamers by Karen Thompson Walker, with its absolutely magnetic premise? (Folks in a college town start falling asleep into deep, dreaming states, and not waking up!) OR! Is it The Meateater Fish and Game Cookbook, written by Steven Rinella? (No gracias autocorrect, not "Rubella"! 😂) Seriously, my outdoorsman husband is enthralled with the recipes and cooking methods for cooking everything from venison to salmon to rabbit. Rubella actually grew up in Twin Lake, Michigan, near my husband in rural Muskegon. He's apparently married to his NYC editor, which fascinates us because of our own country boy/city girl love match. I will be posting more as I read. But for now, which one looks alluring to YOU? #bookstagram #bookpiles #bookstack #bookish #booksbooksbooks
