Finishing off our third year in Australia in our sixth state, and while it’s hotter than the sun, it’s certainly beautiful. ✅☀️🙌🏼
Special is a bit of an understatement when visiting Ikara- Flinders Ranges! Wilpena Pound is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been in Australia, with an incredible Dreamtime story. Often all it takes is a few nights of being immersed in culture, nature & some good company. Never underestimate the power of this country & the history. Always learn. Always respect 🌄
Wonoka Station 🦂(the property I’m currently staying on) has around 1,400 merino sheep 🐑 They live across 20,000 acres of outback and are free to roam 24/7. The sheep get sheered as a group in February and sporadically throughout the year. This farms wool earns its farmer around 600cents per kilo, that is after they have - a) found the sheep 🐕 b) paid and fed shearer’s🥡c) sheared the sheep 🐏 d) sorted through the wools quality (good wool is around 10 centimetres long and has little to no vegetation stuck in the ends such as twigs, dirt, plants ect 🌾 e) manually compressed the wool into 160kg units (this is extremely labour intensive for farmers that can’t afford to pay $17,000 for a new compressor) 👩🌾 The wool is then transported into a town to be valued and hopefully sold. 80% of Australian Wool is then exported overseas. I still don’t know enough about this practice to have a fully formed opinion on the ethics of herding sheep for wool. I do however have a new found appreciation for the effort, time and money that goes into it.
The gorgeous Flinders Ranges in South Australia. A much needed nature fix after two intensive weeks in Jakarta. Thanks to my Darling and friends for the superb company 💗🙏 --- The formation of the ranges began 800 million years ago, an ancient sea covered the area for 300 million years and deposited rocks here where they compressed and uplifted, creating mountain chains. This is where the deep valleys, rippled sea floors and fossils come from here 😲. For thousands of years the Aboriginals inhabited the land here, their heritage gives spiritual meaning to the furrowed landscape.
King Billy of the Flinders Ranges! Spotted in Bunyeroo Gorge - looks like father to many - and an expert at avoiding the Rangers and rifles!. . . . #flindersranges #southaustralia #australia #photo #photoofday #landscapephotography #mountains #ranges #magical #moments #outback #paradise #photography #portrait #flindersrangestours #flindersrangesdaytours #flinders #thingstodoinsa #feralanimals
