Last night was the third workshop in a series of four on creating plant medicine, led by me, hosted by the generous @figearthsupply, and catered (last night at least) by the talented creators @solar_return (I posted the photo of their cakes just to lure you in 😁). Each week, we focus on a specific preparation of plant medicine. Last night, we made oxymel, a combination of herbs, honey, and vinegar (“oxy”= acid, “mel”=honey). We created our own medicines by mixing seasonal and local plants, including California rose hips, rose buds, elderberries, prickly pear fruit, garlic, onions, ginger, habanero peppers, hawthorn berries, California pink pepper, white sage, black sage, California sagebrush, big sagebrush, yerba santa, juniper, mugwort, and California everlasting! Each plant has a specific energy, personality, and medicinal effects, which lend themselves to the process. The whole mix, woven together with apple cider vinegar and local wildflower and sage honey, will sit for a moon cycle before it’s ready to enjoy. Last night was a new moon (in the watery depths of Scorpio), so this batch will be ready to drink in a month’s time, on December’s new moon in Sagittarius 🌑✨🌿 For our last workshop in the series, next Wednesday 6-730pm, we’ll be making soft and soothing glycerites with aloe and mallow. If you’re interested in joining us for this special workshop, email events@figearthsupply! If you can’t make this workshop but still want a taste of the medicine and magic, I’ll be teaching my last workshop of the year on Saturday, December 8th @shopnotoxlife (@notoxlife) during which we’ll dive deep into the process of making tinctures by exploring the energetics of a few favorite local plants (click link in bio to register)! Thank you all for following along on this exploration of plant medicine! And an especially deep thank you to those who have lent their time and love to these workshops. I love gathering to share our love of plants and to support the health of our bodies, our communities, and the Earth. These workshops only happen because of your shared passion!
Our medicinal herb making classes continue this week. Limited availability for Class 2 - Wednesday October 31st 2018 (Halloween) How to make Infused Oils with Yarrow with Cici Cyr of abundant LA. Class Fee: $45 To register, email us at email@example.com
I really wanted to get a photo of everyone who came to last night’s Tincture Workshop (yes, it coincided with the Full Moon 🌝) but I was having so much fun talking that I only took a few! If any of you who were there have more photos, please send them my way! 🌿 We gathered and made tinctures with all sorts of plants, in the first workshop in a series of four. The workshops take place Wednesday evenings from 6-730pm (doors open at 545pm for tea and conversation) @figearthsupply and in each, we focus on a specific process for creating plant medicine. We explore the medicine of many herbs in each class, but we’ll spend extra time with one or two native plants. We have three more workshops on this series and I’d love to see you all there. ✨October 31: infused oils for food and body with yarrow and juniper ✨ November 7: honey and vinegars oxymels with wild rose and elderberry ✨ November 14: glycerin extracts with aloe and mallow And if you want to experience a slightly different flavor of what I do, I’ll also be offering a couple of workshops @notoxlife @shopnotoxlife in the coming weeks! 🔥Saturday, November 3rd, 1-2pm, is Fire Cider. We’ll be making this seasonal and spicy immunity tonic with all sorts of locally foraged herbs. 🔮Saturday, December 8th, 1-3pm, is Herbal Tinctures. We’ll celebrate and explore local plant allies with tinctures and oil infusions. This workshop is a little longer than those in the current plant medicine series, so if you’ve liked the series so far, this is a great opportunity to dive deeper into plant medicine making! If you’re interested in attending, message me and we’ll get you signed up. If you’ve read this far, phew! I am so grateful to be able to share my (usually secret) love of plants with you all and the community that comes to these workshops! I’m usually working nearly alone in gardens or while crafting plant medicine and gathering with community over this stuff feels so good to me and provides a great opportunity to share our knowledge, wisdom, specific techniques, and general enthusiasm! If you have any questions about me or what I offer, please feel free to reach out here or via my website AbundantLA.com.
