I've been thinking lately that good yoga teachers are a bit like con-artists playing a long game. On the surface we're teaching postures. We're teaching how to build and support structures like headstand, wheel pose, triangle pose and pincha mayurasana or whatever. There is intrinsic value to these postures, but the truth is, this is were the long con comes in: individual postures in and of themselves do not improve the quality of anyone's life; BUT, everything you do that leads up to these postures - whether you can actually do them or not - DOES improve the quality of your life.
Even though they're nice and fun to do, tricky poses don't change your life. But, learning to stay focused, consistent, and relaxed in a difficult situation does improve our life. Being willing to step into the unknown and learn something about ourselves does improve our life. Learning that we are more than our limited perceptions of ourselves does change our lives.
The secret is out. Postures are interesting and valuable, but they're only the medium of what actually matters in the practice. And, deep down, everyone that actually practices yoga knows this and happily plays along with the ruse.❤🌀🙏 #yogateacher #yoga #yogalove #yogilife #yogainspiration #myyogajourney #yogadaily #yogaposes #yogaeverywhereandanywhere #yogaeverydamnday #thoughts #yogagirl #blissfulenergyyoga #myolds #everythingolds #yycyoga #yogastudio #shivapose
