As internet famous has now became just “famous”, and as creators we can often be in the same boat as TV shows, movies or Netflix shows. The pressure to create something that appeals to a very large audience is often present, or perhaps a pressure to create a post that did as well as a past post. I was recently watching a video ranking movies, and I was surprised to hear the reviewer use terms that I had often heard creators use about them selves “oh I’m sure Director Xyz is trying to get back to making a movie as good as that one, or “actor So abs So really launched his career here, but this Actor So and So really didn’t do anything after”, or “this story was so perfect at the time but now just doesn’t seem to hold up”. I know creators who are chasing highs or wondering why theirs didn’t come. We as creators are now often looked to perform at those insanely (often outside based challenging Hollywood) levels.
Here’s the thing, our creations are not a teen drama, or a blockbuster movie, they are often our life. Life doesn’t always go in one direction, sometimes we loose important parts of our lives or sometimes it feels like our entire life takes a hiatus. However this doesn’t prevent use from having good things, it just mess from the outside (and often the inside) it may not look great. Creating is not trying to recreate the one good thing that happened, or wondering why nothing is happening, it’s making. Making and making and making. Let’s go make something. —
