WHAT WERE YOU WEARING? // Survivor Art Exhibit__________________________
This week, as part of Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month, we are hosting an art exhibit — “What Were You Wearing?”— to shed some light on the reality of sexual assault in our community.
It is an ugly truth that individuals —women, men, and children — experience sexual assault at the hands of another. However, the first step to ending this evil is through education. We cannot help victims of these horrific crimes unless we understand the reality of these offenses.
It is vital that we understand victims are not to blame for their assault. Their clothing doesn’t make them responsible for their assault. Their location doesn’t make them responsible for their assault. Their drinking alcohol doesn’t make them responsible for their assault. Their perpetrator is 100% responsible for their assault.
We invite everyone to come learn about this issue (noting that there is sensitive content, so attend with that in mind). We all have a role in ending sexual assault in our community. Let’s take the first step toward education, together.
